The IOC failed not to commemorate the massacre of Munich Olympics

Every Olympics opening always condenses an entire century. Present-day drives and moods land on its fragile flag, on its universalistic and pacifist rhetoric. Today we witness what Giuseppe De Bellis defined “the Islamic Olympics”, likewise we saw the Nazi Olympics in 1936, the Communist Olympics in 1980, the Chinese authoritarian in 2008. 1972 was the year of the Terror Olympics. That year however, while other comets vanished, lasts nowadays. It is not by coincidence of course that London Olympics opened with the refusal by the Olympic Committee to celebrate the remembrance of the eleven Israeli athletes who were brutally murdered by a Palestinian terror commando in 1972. Today's event falls in the era of appeasement with the Arab world, the era of Obama's kowtow, almost bent in two by the desire to please the Saudi Prince, the era when we search to settle with the power gain of the Muslim Brotherhood in the Arab world after the revolutions, by consciously telling lies. How could the Olympic Committee call terrorism “terrorism”, and “Jews” Jews who are constantly its favorite target, in the face of the Islamic world which is currently scrutinizing and threatening it?

The IOC refusal despite insistence across the world, by Obama in person and the American Senate, by the Italian Parliament who observed a minute of silence, by the Bundestag, by the English Parliament, by the Canadian, Australian Parliament, as well as other elected Assemblies of the Western Countries is a grave failure in the fight to terrorism and for the sacrosanct commemoration of the Israeli youth who only came to compete in their sport specialty. It is a failure for us all, for all the democratic world. That heinous attack within the Olympic fences in the post-Nazi Germany, divided in two by Communism, during the prime of the Cold War, was de facto an attack to the whole idea of Western freedom, a paean to International subversive terrorism, like September 11, but in 1972. Sometimes numbers seem to have a fate, a hidden meaning: eleven were the victims, September was the month of the massacre. The Cabbalistic mystery is here less relevant than the one which unraveled forty years after. Der Spiegel recently published a big piece of revelations mostly on Germany’s indolence and inertia. Even though that was already known to us, it does not suffice to explain how such an attack could take place. That attack changed the world, it dismantled the perception of the Olympic games as a therapeutic event, provided a pro-active reflex to the Cold War, it praised terror, it led to the perception of Israel as a troublesome entity on the international scenery. That is what it was.Amnon Lord, commentator with the Israeli newspaper Makor Rishon, writes that we should not deceive ourselves by holding on to the idea that the 30308 files of the German investigation entail a thesis, placing all the bad guys together, and thanks to this thesis the world can heave a sign of relief. There was a Palestinian commando determined to kill, the support of Baader-Meinhof Gang from the left and of a neo-Nazi group from the right, represented by a certain Willi Foal and Wolfgang Abramovsky. So we saw Palestinians in the middle, on the right Germans who hate Jews and on the left Germans who also hate Jews but for opposite reasons.

All the other are all good guys. But the thing is that beside the actors, you also need to scrutinize the scene. It is the scene that matters, like the Twin Towers, symbol of the American power, for Bin Laden's attack. The Olympics are the universalistic scenery where the abysmal awful gap was displayed with grand success of terrorism, where the conflict, never to be settled between the subversive communist world plus the third world, against the democratic, capitalistic world, took place. The sacrificial lamb, the symbol to abate: the democratic State of Israel that embarrasses the authoritarian world, the Arab world, their Soviets' allies, the so-said “progressive democracies” of the time, the liberation movements of “self-determination”. The place: Germany where the most sensitive border to Communism lies; Communism which scowls at Bonn's capitalism, Berlin's bridge where German shepherds prevent the escapes of Nathan Sharansky and other like him from the East .

Germany, which killed six millions Jews, now lets a significant symbolic aftermath be killed, because they are Israeli Jews, the free and strong ones. The Israeli team is denied both the right to live and the right to take part in a universal event, Jews are raus again, and nobody cares.

The raid to rescue them at the airport turned into a massacre, while the terrorists captured will discreetly be released, as incredible as it might seem.

Der Spiegel reports, and it was common knowledge, that authorities in Germany had been informed by a dispatch from Lebanon to Bonn from the German Embassy in Beirut. While the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs was taking its time to hand the news on to intelligence services, three days prior to the attack our weekly magazine”Gente” wrote that Black September terrorists were planning “a sensational action over the games”. In the mean time Palestinian terrorists were already freely roaming around, studying the field at the Olympic village. How could all this happen?

Here we come again to the magnitude of the operation, a picture emerges that apparently summarizes several basic elements of the time. We are in the middle of the terrorism against a backdrop of the Cold War at its apogee. Israel had in the past few years won the Six Day War, the hope that the Middle East will pass to the pro-Western field thrives, as welcomed by the Unites States. Arabs are in shock, they use the shallowest and most brutal weapons, like the Lod Massacre or the Sabena plane hijacking. The Communists-Arabs strategic alliance has no compass. Terrorism is their main weapon, still they do not succeed: for instance the Sabena plane was freed by a heroic Israeli commando, which included both Benjamin Netanyahu and Ehud Barak; a number of other attacks was thwarted, too. Lord maintains that Munich becomes a test bench where everything is set at stake: while terrorists throw two corpses of killed athletes in the face of the International press, Germans are not able to act, Israelis asking to enter are blocked, and foremost several State members, the Communist secret police, mingle with West Germans within the Olympic facilities.

Soviets and Germans already share an anti-Jewish history, and Israel has by now become the center of a concrete, current, and active Arab-Soviet war against Israel over the Middle East. Also West Germany was a weak point, and just like we can still see from neo-Nazi sites, anti-Semitic neo-Nazi hatred becomes anti-Israel hatred, and it turns into blood.

This event has got deep and heinous roots in our culture: Palestinians and Arab caricatures bring to mind the Sturmer ones, it is again Jews with hook noses hiding missiles and gold sacks with the symbol of dollar and the David's star on top of them.

Democracy, the West … back then like today again they are the target through an anti-Jewish image. The IOC failed not to protect itself with at least a minute of silence.
