BERLUSCONI: WITH NIRENSTEIN TO RETURN TO ISRAELI-PALESTINIAN DIALOGUE
Statement by Silvio Berlusconi, Prime Minister of Italy
June 30, 2011
(ASCA) - Rome, 30 June: “I would like to congratulate, on behalf of myself and the Government, the Honourable Fiamma Nireinstein on her election as President of Jewish MPs around the world, decided with a unanimous vote by the International Council of Jewish Parliamentarians”. In a statement Silvio Berlusconi also emphasizes that “this prestigious and authoritative role is the culmination of a cultural commitment and political passion that the Honourable Nirenstein, Member of Parliament for the PdL and Vice-president of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, has always demonstrated both in Italy and abroad in defence of those values of freedom, democracy and peace that unite Italy and Israel. This is a struggle that also sees us working alongside one another for a return to dialogue as the only means for resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, as well as fighting dictatorships and the fundamentalist terrorism that are hindering democratic revolutions in the countries of the Middle East and Mediterranean Africa”.
The Prime Minister concludes by saying: “I hope that the Honourable Nirenstein will, in her new role, succeed in obtaining the successes and positive outcomes for which she has always striven with courage, tenacity, great spirit of service and trust in freedom.”
