Chi potrà, adesso, pretendere di non capire, di non sapere? La Tunisia come primo segnale rivoluzionario ci dette un progetto di costituzione democratico che include la messa fuori legge di chiunque abbia contatti e stabilisca rapporti con Israele; i rivoluzionari libici, vincitori dopo una lunga battaglia, ci comunicarono come grande risultato di quel bagno di sangue che la sharia era in arrivo e che la poligamia sarebbe stata ristabilita; il riformista Marocco ci ha fatto assistere a un’altra vittoria islamista; in Yemen, El Qaeda si aggira intorno al potere;in Egitto, e questa è la peggiore di tutte le notizie, non solo vincono con circa il 47 per cento i Fratelli Musulmani, ma arrivano secondi con la bellezza del 20 per cento coloro che venivano sempre qualificati dai giornali occidentali come un gruppetto irrilevante di pazzi estremisti, i salafiti del partito al Nour. Di concerto, e certo non è un gesto casuale, il “moderato”, anzi moderatissimo Abu Mazen, il cocco di tutte le cancellerie europee e della signora Clinton, combina in questi giorni un’alleanza con Hamas.
Tutto ciò è un male? Certamente, evidentemente lo è, ma siamo di fronte a un’eterogenesi dei fini che può cambiare completamente, e in meglio, tutta la politica europea e americana. Per decenni abbiamo chiuso gli occhi, e siamo entrati nella parte rem del sonno quando sono scoppiate le rivoluzioni dette primavera araba. Non ci ha neppure svegliato il fatto che l’Iran, la Siria stessa, gli Hezbollah, Hamas, ovvero tutto l’asse antioccidentale dura, sprizzavano gioia da tutti i pori ed erano i grandi sostenitori delle insorgenze. Ahmadinejad ha dovuto chinare la cresta solo quando il suo migliore amico Assad ha subito l’assalto della sua gente, anch’essa peraltro in gran parte guidata dai Fratelli Musulmani. La Siria, è fuori gioco, Hezbollah ne soffrono alquanto, e così Hamas. L’Iran offre un fianco scoperto, mentre il rapporto IAEA dice la verità sulla preparazione delle armi atomiche. E questo è un bene. Ma è un bene soprattutto che la verità della forza islamica in tutto il mondo arabo, come in un film del mistero, alla fine si mostri alla grande platea del mondo Occidentale. Esso ha ignorato la grande, evidente realtà della forza islamica per decenni, si è illuso che il protagonista del film fosse un amico. Che rifiutasse di stringerci la mano, si dedicasse a azioni terroristiche, predicasse la distruzione di Israele e dell’Occidente tutto solo in un angolo del mondo islamico, e forse solo a causa della causa irrisolta dei fratelli palestinesi; pensavamo che alla fine fosse disponibile ad accettare l’occidentalizzazione inevitabile della sua società, a consentire alle donne la parità, il matrimonio monogamico, agli omosessuali di vivere tranquilli, a Israele di sopravvivere, ai cristiani di praticare la loro religione.. Ci siamo illusi che comunque il mondo islamico conservasse scrigni di buone sorprese, e l’idea di una guerra di religione ha sollevato sorrisi di compatimento nei commentatori più qualificati. Persino l’arricchimento nucleare dell’ Iran unito alla promessa messianica di Ahmadinejad di portare al caos e alla distruzione di Israele per far tornare il Mahdi sulla terra, sono stati avvertiti come un fastidioso epifenomeno, e guai a pronunciare la parola guerra.
Adesso si vede bene anche dalla seconda fila, persino dalle pagine di Repubblica: la guerra contro l’Occidente che è in corso da decenni adesso ha ideologi che guidano immense piazze, eserciti, istituzioni… le elezioni hanno portato al potere forze da cui guardarsi. Saremo in grado di elaborare una strategia confacente a questa situazione non nuova ma ormai patente? Per ora parliamo solo di aiuti ingenti alle rivoluzioni, di piani Marshall: imponiamo almeno che siano condizionali ai diritti umani fondamentali e alla pace con Israele. E prepariamoci a un domani incerto.

Who can now claim not to understand, not to know? As its first revolutionary sign, Tunisia has issued a democratic constitution draft envisaging a ban for whoever has contacts and establishes relations with Israel; after their long victorious struggle, the Libyan revolutionaries have announced, as a great result of that bloodshed, that sharia would be coming and polygamy would be reinstated; the reformist Morocco has ben the stage of another Islamist victory; in Yemen, El Qaeda is prowling for power; in Egypt – and this is the worst news – not only have the Muslim Brothers won with about 47% of the votes, but they are immediately followed, with as much as 20% of the votes, by the Salaphites of the Nour party, always referred to by the West as an irrelevant group of crazy extremists. In this connection, it is certainly not by chance that the “moderate”, indeed extremely “moderate” Abu Mazen - the pet of all European governments and of Mrs. Clinton – is finalizing an alliance with Hamas.
Is this so bad? Yes, it’s very bad. But the goals are so heterogeneous that can dramatically change – and for the better – the whole European and American policy-making. For decades we have closed our eyes and we have slipped into rem sleep when the so-called Arab spring revolutions have erupted.
We haven’t even woken up when Iran, Syria, the Hezbollah, Hamas, that is the whole anti-western axis, have rejoiced and immediately supported the insurgents. Ahmadinejad’s crest has only fallen when his best friend Assad has been attacked by his people, mostly led by the Muslim Brothers. Syria is out of the game, the Hezbollah are suffering a great deal and so is Hamas. Iran has an open flank, while the IAEA report tells the truth about the preparation of the nuclear weapons. And this is good. But it is especially good because the true identity of the Islamic forces is revealing itself to the large audience of the Western world, like in a mystery movie. The West has ignored the significant and evident reality of the Islamic force for decades. It has deceived itself thinking that the main actor in the movie is a friend, that rejecting to shake our hand, masterminding terrorist attacks, preaching the destruction of Israel and of the West, all alone in a corner of the Islamic world, is the result of the unresolved issue of the Palestinian brothers; we have thought that, in the end, it would be willing to accept the inevitable westernization of its society, to grant equal status to women, to envisage monogamous marriage, to allow homosexuals to live their life, to enable Israel to survive and Christians to practice their religion. We have deceived ourselves with the expectation that the Islamic world may have nice surprises in store for us. And the idea of a war of religion has elicited compassionate smiles among the most distinguished observers. Even Iran’s nuclear enrichment program, combined to Ahmadinejad’s messianic promise to bring about chaos and the destruction of Israel for the return of the Mahdi on earth, have been perceived as a fastidious epiphenomenon. And never dare say the word war.
Now, it is possible to see extremely well even from the second row, even in the daily Repubblica (or in The New York Times) pages : the decade-long ongoing war against the West has ideologists who are able to lead huge crowds, armies, institutions…. the elections have given power to forces to watch out for. Will we be able to work out a strategy in line with this not new but very clear strategy? For the time being we are only talking about a huge amount of aid to the revolutions, of Marshall plans: at least, let’s link all this to fundamental human rights and to peace with Israel. And let’s get ready for an uncertain future.
