Iran as Women Rights Advocate: How Hypocritical
Iran’s supreme leader Ali Khamenei will likely have admirers also of his speechfor the anniversary of the birth of Fatima, daughter of the prophet, ashuman rights are nowaday subject to personal opinions. Iranian AgencyFars Newsreports Khamenei as saying that the West will soon fall due to “devilish sexual rules”. In other words women in the West are affected by “exploitative view and objective use”, which is an unforgivable sin, the consequences of which are absolutely irreparable. For instance, “exploitation undermines Western family structure and increases trafficking of women and illegitimate births”; the human being “is divided into two parts: men who are consideredas beneficiaries and women who are exploited and used by men”; therefore “women in the US and Europe face daily violations to their human rights”.
Fine. One might even agree. But puh-leeze, look who’s talking! Although Iranian authorities repeatedly reiterated to have amended the code, we still receive newsabout stoning, and especially women being sentenced to this horrendous death, like the infamous case of Sahine Mohamadei Ashtiani, whose outcome we do not know. Other cases were reported in 2006 (Mahboubeh M.) and also in 2007 when some people, is reported, were finished off by stones which have to be not too big in size not to kill immediately, but certainly nor too small.
Since the regime is in power executions (also of men) through stoning have reportedly been 77 and 15 would have already been sentenced to death and would now be waiting for their executions. On top of this horror we are faced with the image of Iranian women life: the veil, the shador, enveloping them from head to toes otherwise they would be dishonored, attacked by the of Revolutionary Guards, beaten, imprisoned...
According to the Codea woman isworth half a man, they are entitled to half of the worth of heredity than men, same applies for witnessing in court and for the amount of indemnity. Iranian women have no right whatsoever to decide about their own divorce, nor to keep custody of their children, nor to receive a passport if their husbands don’t agree. A girl can be given away in marriage as young as 13. And then of course you also have domestic violence, daily life for Iranian women; abd despite being highly educated, they can only marginally access the labor marked…
Anyhow this apartheid has been recounted by a considerable number of Iranian women, who generally do prefer to live in the horrible hell of Western societies.
