Grande successo per missione ICJP negli USA per il processo di pace, contro l'unilateralismo

Washington DC, 9 settembre 2011 - Si è conclusa ieri sera la missione negli Stati Uniti del direttivo dell'International Council of Jewish Parliamentarians (ICJP), organizzazione che riunisce oltre 300 parlamentari ebrei da tutto il mondo, presieduta dall'On. Fiamma Nirenstein (Pdl), vicepresidente della Commissione Esteri della Camera dei Deputati.

La delegazione guidata dall'On. Nirenstein e composta da 11 parlamentari, di diverso orientamento politico, provenienti da Canada, USA, Brasile, Australia, Italia, Costa Rica, Belgio, Ungheria, Inghilterra, ha tenuto dal 6 all'8 settembre una serie di incontri all'ONU e al Congresso Americano in vista dell'imminente presentazione, all'Assemblea Generale, di una risoluzione per il riconoscimento unilaterale dello Stato Palestinese.

"Siamo venuti con l’obiettivo di salvare il processo di pace nella prospettiva di due stati per due popoli, che invece, con una dichiarazione unilaterale, probabilmente non avverra’ mai" ha dichiarato Nirenstein. "L’unilateralismo è invece un'iniziativa che non aiuta la pace e che costituisce una violazione di tutti gli accordi precedentemente stipulati tra Israeliani e Palestinesi e di tutte le risoluzioni ONU che invocano una soluzione negoziata e accettata da entrambe le parti" ha specificato Nirenstein, aggiungendo che "una eventuale approvazione di questa risoluzione creerebbe grande instabilità in un mondo arabo già in preda a grandi convulsioni. Non potrebbe esserci momento più inadatto".

L'ICJP ha chiesto alle due parti di ritornare quanto prima al tavolo dei negoziati e all'ONU di impegnarsi in questo senso, in una serata di discussione ospitata dal presidente del World Jewish Congress, Ronald Lauder, con le rappresentanze diplomatiche alle Nazioni Unite dell’Unione Europea (Italia, Germania, Russia, Francia, Polonia) e durante un'affollata conferenza stampa tenuta dal direttivo ICJP al Palazzo di Vetro di New York.

Il giorno sucessivo la delegazine e' stata ricevuta a Washington al Congresso Americano dai parlamentari ebrei, e ha insieme a loro dibattuto la relazione dell'Ambasciatore Israeliano negli Stati Uniti, Michael Oren.

"Si e' trattato di una missione di altissimo profilo tenuta in un format senza precedenti" ha sottolineato Nirenstein. "Gli Ambasciatori all’Onu che abbiamo incontrato hanno dibattuto con noi in maniera molto diretta e franca il loro punto di vista sulla questione e ne abbiamo tratto l’impressione che ci sia ancora molto da fare per evitare di arrivare a una conclusione destabilizzante e pericolosa. Se ciò non avverrà potremmo trovarci davanti a una situazione moto grave i nostri interlocutori sembrano averne consapevolezza. Le strade del processo di pace sono altre e sono sempre bilaterali. Andiamo avanti ora con il nostro lavoro con numerosi progetti” conclude Nirenstein “continuiamo con la raccolta di firme di parlamentari da tutto il mondo su una lettera aperta "Contro ogni unilateralismo, per il ritorno alle trattative", che in Italia e' stata già' sottoscritta da oltre 150 parlamentari di diversi gruppi politici".

Great success for ICJP mission in the USA on  Palestinian unilateralism

Washington DC, September 9, 2011 - The  International Council of Jewish Parliamentarians (ICJP) just ended its U.S. mission in  view  of  the  imminent  submission  to  the  General Assembly  of  a  resolution  for  the  unilateral  recognition  of  the  Palestinian State. The  ICJP  is  an  organization  gathering more  than  300  Jewish  parliamentarians  from  all  over  the  world,  chaired  by Fiamma  Nirenstein  (Pdl), vice president of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Italian Chamber of Deputies.

The delegation was led by Nirenstein and formed by members of  parliament  from  different  political  parties  coming  from  Canada,  the USA, Brasil, Australia, Italy, Israel, Costa  Rica, Belgium, Hungary and Great Britain.

"We have come with the aim to save the peace process for the two state/two people solution, that, with a unilateral declaration, may never be implemented” stated Nirenstein. "Instead  unilateralism is an initiative that does not help peace and which is a violation of all the previous agreements signed by the Israelis  and the Palestinians and of all the U.N. resolutions calling for a negotiated solution accepted by both parties” clarified Nirenstein, adding that  “the  approval of this resolution would create great instability in the Arab world that is already best by great tensions. The timing could not be worse”.

The ICJP asked both parties to go back to the negotiating table as soon as possible and the U.N. to undertake a commitment to this end, during a meeting hosted by the president of the World Jewish Congress, Ronald Lauder, with the diplomatic representatives to the U.N. from  the European Union, Italy, Germany, Russia, France and Poland, and during a crowded press conference held by the ICJP steering committee at the U.N. in New York.

The  day  after  the  delegation  was  received  by  the Jewish MPs at the U.S.  Congress in Washington and they met the Ambassador of Israel in the United States, Michael Oren.

"It  was  a  very  high-profile  mission  held  with  an  unprecedented  approach” stressed  Mrs  Nirenstein.  "The  ambassadors  to  the  U.N.  we  met,  discussed with  us  their  point  of  view  on  this  matter  in  a  very  direct  and  sincere  way. We  had  the  impression  that  there  is  still  a  lot  to  do  in  order  to  avoid  this destabilizing  and  dangerous  conclusion.  Our  interlocutors  seem  to  be  aware that if this is not prevented, we may face a very serious situation. There are other  options,  always  bilateral,  for  the  peace  process.  Now  we  will  go  on with our work and with our numerous projects” concluded Mrs Nirenstein “we continue  collecting  the  signatures  of  parlamentarians  from  all  over  the  world on  an  open  letter  “Against  any  unilateralism  to  resume  the  negotiations” which was signed in Italy by over 150 MPs from all the parties”.
