Syria is the epicenter of the conflict between Ayatollahs and the West

Win-win games are very common in the West: an agreement, a deal, or a compromise is designed in this way when all participants can profit from it. The prominent Islamist commentator Harold Rhode referring to Turkey explained that Erdogan is not looking for a compromise with protesters like we would in similar situations, as his culture dictates him to always pursue a crushing victory, and so will he, even ongreat crowdssending him the evident message they can no longer tolerate his arrogant oppression; reporters and soldiers have been jailed, alcohol is forbidden, the most obsolete Islamic dress code has been restored.

As a matter of fact, all the major current issues now at stake in the Middle East share this common denominator: no compromise is in sight, although we as Westerners are scrutinizing the situation looking for traces of moderatism with a magnifying glass, as dictated by our own culture. Syria is at stake once again. Obama would like to send weapons to the rebels and impose a no-fly zone. This happens a few days from the much advertised Geneva meeting, which shouldsolve all issues through compromise. Why? Because reality inexorably unveiled: Assad is winning, and no compromise will be able to assuage this incredible fact. Bill Clinton basically told Obama: Iran and the Hezbollah became the diamond points in this war, which makes Syria the epicenter of the conflict that Iran istrying to impose on the world in order to achieve an invincible hegemony. How are we exactly acting? The idea that “Iran is beating the USA in Syria was first conveyed by the Dean of the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies Vali Nasr, later reinforced by Elliot Abrams, former Bush administration national security adviser, who sees “a humiliating defeat of the United States at the hands of Iran.” All of a sudden, the Geneva conference didn’t look so decisive after all. Assad’s bragging on the incoming funds to his hands for reconstruction from the World Bank, along with the defeat of the rebels in Qusair, lessen the importance of the verifications on the use of chemical weapons: Obama got scared by the absolute lack of the possibility of a compromise, he pictured Assad in the saddle as the winner of this number two match of the Cold War. That’s why he now wants to act; relying on a compromise is no moreworthwhile.

A compromise with the government is neither going to happen in Iran: irrespective of the elections’ outcomes the IAEA, the International Atomic Energy Agency, warns that Iran is about to get a nuclear weapon. Iran is just few kilograms of enriched uranium away from the nuclear bomb and none among the candidates to yesterday’s elections hints at a possible compromise. Khamenei’s Iran already won, whoever wins, the Khomeini regime will rule once again. We received a message and a video by Caspian Makan, the fiancé of Neda Agha Soltan, the girl who was shot dead by aBasij militia member in June 2009 during the uprising against the elections’ results. Neda looks beautiful, bleeding, and dying. People stare at this ineffable horror. Hundreds got killed, thousands wounded and shoved in jail. Caspian is not advocating voting for the hyperactive Teheran’s major, nor for the negotiatorSaid Jalili, who surely the term “negotiation” funny, nor for the moderate Rohani (that at the end win the elections two days after this article was written -editor's note).

He is just asking, in the name of wide open, Neda’s eyes, to boycott the elections. And even after the elections, whoever wins, we should listen to his message as a warning that the results will not be of any help for dissidents, women, homosexual, nor will there be a stop to the atomic run. There is no future for Teheran’s people, who would like to live in a normal society, simply not ruled by a terrible old man and his court. But there are no win win games, no compromises in the Middle East.
