Condannare senza riserve le violenze del regime di Gheddafi

Dichiarazione dell’On. Fiamma Nirenstein (Pdl), Vicepresidente della Commissione Esteri della Camera

“Condanno nella maniera più assoluta l’uso senza precedenti della violenza che il regime di Gheddafi sta praticando sulla folla dei suoi concittadini. Nessuna delle rivoluzioni in corso in tutto il mondo musulmano ha avuto finora esiti così sanguinosi.
Pur augurandomi che le cose possano trovare una loro soluzione pacifica, non posso che rilevare l’indisponibilità di Gheddafi a soluzioni che abbiano a che fare con la nostra cultura della libertà, cosa che mi apparve evidente già quando mi astenni in Aula nel voto di ratifica dell’accordo Italia-Libia, approvato da quasi tutto l’arco parlamentare.
Le ragioni per cui lo feci, e che dichiarai in Aula, non erano attinenti al contenuto del trattato, che a me parve pieno di buona volontà e molto utili rispetto alla soluzione di un contenzioso che da anni impegnava tutti i vari governi italiani e che di fatto è stato in gran parte risolto, nonché alla questione degli sbarchi clandestini che sono diminuiti in maniera notevole. Le mie ragioni erano radicate nella difficoltà a credere in un interlocutore come Gheddafi, le cui parole sempre estremiste e le cui continue minacce all’ONU e allo Stato di Israele mi resero difficile, allora come oggi, credere nella sua autentica disponibilità.
L’esito di tutte le rivoluzioni cui assistiamo in questi giorni è ancora molto difficile da prevedere e l’Europa deve monitorare ogni possibilità di svolta verso l’integralismo islamico, un rischio che anche la Libia corre. Ma il nostro primo dovere ora è pronunciarci senza riserve perché si smetta quanto prima di sparare sui manifestanti”.

Libya, Nirenstein: our duty to firmly condemn Gheddafi's regime violence

Statement by Hon. Fiamma Nirenstein, Vice-president of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, Italian Chamber of Deputies

"I firmly condemn the incredible use of violence of Gheddafi's regime against the crowds of his fellow citizens. None of the current revolutions in the Muslim world has yet had such bloody outcomes.
Although I wish things might peacefully settle, I cannot but stress Gheddafi's unwillingness for solutions that have to do with our culture of freedom. This was already clear to me when I abstained from voting the ratification of the Agreement between Italy and Libya, which was approved in 2009 by the almost entire Parliament.
The reasons of my abstention, which I declared in the parliamentary assembly, were not pertaining to the content of the treaty, which in my opinion showed good will and offered a solution to the dispute that had long involved different Italian governments and that indeed has in large part been settled; the agreement has also offered a solution to the question of illegal immigrants, the number of which has remarkably decreased. My reasons were based on the impossibility to believe in a deal with a partner as Gheddafi, whose radical words and whose constant threats to the UN and to the State of Israel made me very sceptical regarding his authentic willingness.
The outcome of the revolutions we are assisting these days is still difficult to foresee. Europe has to monitor every opportunity of evolving Islamic extremism, a risk that Libya also runs. But now our major duty is to speak out without reserves so that shootings on the protesters stop as soon as possible".
